Again, KWSUBEB distributes instructional materials

The Kwara State Government has again distributed instructional materials worth millions of naira to public primary and junior secondary schools under the Universe Basic Education Board (SUBEB).

The instructional materials distributed was part of the gains of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq's commitment to basic education through the payment of counterpart funds.

Speaking during the flag-off of the distribution which was well attended by top government functionaries and critical stakeholders in the education sector including the Speaker, Kwara State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Engr Yakubu Salihu DANLADI, several commissioners, Permanent Secretaries, Special Advisers and the State Executive Committee of the Nigerian Union of Teachers. Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq said the gesture was to strengthen the public basic education system in the state.

The Governor who was represented by the Deputy Governor Kayode Alabi said the distribution underscores the commitment of his administration to give a solid foundation to Kwara children to find their feet through life.

"This comes on the heels of massive investment in infrastructural development across social sectors, especially basic education in the state. Today, we are fixing schools facilities in more than 600 locations in the state. Our administration has also ensured that teachers are paid as and when due, while promotion arrears are being sorted one after the other", according to him.

He added that "we have also implemented the full minimum wage in a way never seen before in the recent history of Kwara State. All of these are meant to place the state on a sound footing. I am glad that we are already getting results for our modest efforts, as a recent outing in the national competition has shown towards. We will not rest on oars".

"We are providing these multi-million naira instructional materials to further ease access to quality basic education. Instructional materials are central to effective teaching and learning. I commend our partners and donor agencies for their support which makes this possible. I also commend all the stakeholders in the education sector, including management of SUBEB for their untiring efforts to restore the glory of basic education in the state", AbdulRazaq said.

The Executive Chairman of SUBEB, Prof. Shehu Raheem Adaramaja said the distribution of instructional materials which is the third edition since the inception of the present administration, was part of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq efforts in repositioning basic education and creating a conducive environment for pupils and students.

Adaramaja added that the distribution of instructional materials would go a long way in improving basic education in the state.

"Let me quickly commend the efforts of Your Excellency for the prompt response to the yearnings and aspiration of all the workers in the state through the regular payment of workers' salaries and implementation of new consequential adjustment for all the teaching and non-teaching staff across the state.

"Let me congratulate Your Excellency on the recent victory of our students on the 1st position attained on the presidential debate held in Lagos on 15th December 2022 which led to the state representing Nigeria in the World competition holding in United Arab Emirate, Dubai in July 2022".

"The Board equally wants Your Excellency, to please consider the renovation of SUBEB headquarters offices and provide interlocking to create enabling working environment for effective and efficient service delivery", the Executive Chairman appealed.
